L.A. Film Festival kicks off with focus on local production

Theme continued with the evening's main attraction, a screening of "Grandma," which was shot in Los Angeles and Barstow. "Grandma" is a funny and poignant film about a day in the life of misanthropic poet Elle Reid , who shows up on her doorstep needing $600 by the end of the day. They traverse the city trying to raise the funds -- dredging up a lifetime of personal baggage and feminist issues: Elle is a lesbian whose partner of 38 years has recently passed away and whose much younger girlfriend has left her just that morning.
